LEARN WHAT'S AT STAKE
The Paiter Suruí is a 1.200 member tribe indigenous to Amazonian Brazil who only came into contact with the modern world 40 years ago. Livelihoods and well-being of the Suruí are deeply intertwined with the rainforest where they find food and natural medicine, and their traditions and beliefs are born.
For thousands of years, the Suruí have cohabited with animals such as the Jaguar, Yellow-Spotted Amazon River Turtle and White nosed Saki. Today, they defend these animals and their home forest of 250.000 hectares against illegal logging by outsiders in modern ways (GPS usage) with a 50 year tribal management plan and a unique forest climate project.
As part of their projects to protect and sustain their environment and livelihood, they grow and reforest part of their cultural heritage: the fine flavour cacao trees. Under the Original Beans brand we are preparing the release of an exclusive, pure chocolate bar from the wild cacao harvested in the Suruí rainforests. Join us and help continue this project supporting the protection of the Suruí way of live in the forest.
As we say: Taste the earth’s rarest places and preserve them!
